Printed in its first year of 1940, this USGS 7.5-minute topographic sheet is an antique in good condition, never folded and only moderately handled, on thick stock. It takes in a stretch of the San Joaquin Valley in Kern County, roughly 44 miles northwest of Bakersfield, with Lost Hills and part of the Kern National Wildlife Refuge falling within the quad boundaries. Drawn from a 1932 field survey by geographer F.A. Wuopio, the sheet captures the valley floor before the modern road system and current agricultural footprint took shape, recording historic levees, canals, placenames, and the ranches and structures known at the time. The reverse carries printed reference material on reading the map.

A reddish tint may be used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings will be shown. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.
