First published in 1932, this Stevens sheet was printed in 1940 and survives in very good condition, lightly handled and never folded on thick stock. Set in Kern County within the San Joaquin Valley southwest of Bakersfield, the quad area takes in Rosedale and the flat agricultural country of the valley floor, drawn from a 1929 field survey by geographer F.A. Wuopio. The sheet is a historical snapshot of the area, showing rail lines, early lateral and canal alignments, and all known structures, churches, and schools at the time of survey, with a flawless map area and only minor discoloration at the upper right collar edge.

All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.

This map is from the 7.5-minute series, the most detailed series that is widely available from the USGS. The 1932 Stevens map is a valuable historical record for the area. It contains some placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
