Printed in its year of first publication, 1950, this USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is in very good condition, having been lightly handled and never folded on thick stock. Named for Picacho Butte in the high country of northern Arizona, the quad takes in part of the Prescott National Forest and the area around Ash Fork, in Coconino and Yavapai counties about 55 miles west of Flagstaff. Compiled from a 1946 and 1947 aerial and field survey under the Forest Service, the northern half of this sheet was left unsurveyed, and the reverse carries printed reference material about the mapping program of the era. It comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona, and carries a library stamp in the upper left collar.
