This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1947 edition printed in 1964, with photorevisions from 1937 and 1948, and the sheet is in very good condition—lightly handled and never folded on thick stock. Straddling the Mississippi River about 55 miles south of Saint Louis, the quad crosses the Missouri-Illinois state line and takes in the town of Chester, Illinois, along with Perryville and communities such as Saint Mary and Kaskaskia on the Missouri side. Surveyed before Interstate 55 was built, it records the historic overland routes, rail lines, and early placenames of the country between Perryville and Sainte Genevieve, reaching east toward Mary’s River Covered Bridge in Illinois. A library stamp and an inventory notation sit in the bottom right collar.
