This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1963 edition, printed in 1969, and the sheet is in excellent condition – very lightly handled and never folded, with a flawless map area and a small inventory stamp on the bottom left collar. Set in Pima County about 85 miles southwest of Phoenix, the quad takes in the town of Ajo and the community of Childs, along with the Batamote Mountains and Childs Mountain and parts of the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge and Organ Pipe Cactus Wilderness. Ajo grew up around open-pit copper mining, and the surrounding desert mountain country gives the sheet its rugged character; printed on thick stock and never folded, it lies flat. It comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.

A reddish tint is used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings are depicted. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.
