Big Springs Arizona Kaibab Nail Canyon USGS Topo Map 1984

$42

This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1958 edition printed in 1984, and the sheet is in excellent condition — lightly handled and never folded, with a flawless map area and a clean collar free of markings or edge tears. Set in Coconino County about 25 miles south of Fredonia, the quad takes in part of the Kaibab National Forest and the Kanab Creek Wilderness, along with Nail Canyon and the high forested country of the Kaibab Plateau. That remote plateau backcountry, drawn at a 40-foot contour interval, shows the rugged terrain north of the Grand Canyon in fine detail. From the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Big Springs 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1955 and 1958. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
