This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1954 edition, printed in 1965, and the sheet is in good condition with midsheet horizontal and vertical foldlines and a map area free of wear or markings. Covering roughly 14 by 17 miles of San Juan County in southeastern Utah, about 15 miles north of Monticello, the quad area takes in the community of La Sal and the surrounding high desert country. Drawn from a 1953 and 1954 aerial and field survey, it records this stretch of canyon and mesa country as it stood in the mid-1950s, well before much of the region’s later development.

The Hatch Rock 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1953 and 1954. A reddish tint may be used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings will be shown. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
