This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is a first-year 1929 print, published and printed in that year, and now nearly a century old in good condition. Drawn from an 1925 and 1926 field survey under geographer C.L. Sadler, the quad takes in country southeast of Minot in McHenry and Ward counties, with the community of Sawyer and the town of Surrey falling within its boundaries. The sheet was never folded and is printed on thick stock, with only moderate handling, minor wear in the map area, and a repaired edge tear along the bottom collar; its reverse carries printed reference material explaining the mapping program and how to read the contour lines.

All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
