Printed in its year of first publication, 1936, this 7.5-minute USGS topographic sheet is an antique in good condition that was never folded, with a crease in the upper left corner and moderate blemishes in the collar; it is printed on thick stock. Set about 48 miles south of Fresno in Kings County, the quad takes in the Tulare Lake Bed and Helm Corner, west of Corcoran, with a five-foot contour interval suited to the flat lakebed terrain. Drawn from a 1932 field survey by geographer D.H. Rutlege, the sheet records the area before the modern road system and the current agricultural footprint took shape, mapping historic levees, drainage alignments, placenames, and the ranches and structures then present. The reverse carries printed reference material on reading the map.
