This USGS 30-minute topographic sheet is a 1914 edition printed in 1946, in very good condition on thick stock, lightly handled and never folded. The quad covers the southern Arizona borderlands from Parker Canyon east to the San Pedro River, taking in much of the Huachuca Mountains along with portions of the Coronado National Forest and Miller Peak Wilderness; the community of Hereford and the area around Sierra Vista fall within its boundaries in Cochise and Santa Cruz Counties. Drawn from a 1912 and 1913 field survey under geographer R.B. Marshall, the map predates the modern highway system and Parker Canyon Lake, showing the historic travel routes, rail lines, and land grant boundaries of the era. It comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the USGS 30-minute series have been out of print for many years. They have never been common and original prints are increasingly difficult to find. For areas where the 30-minute map was produced, it is usually the first large-scale survey done by the USGS for that area. These are a valuable historical record, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent series’ and editions.
