Tower Peak California USGS 15-Min Topo Map 1972 Vintage

$48

This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet is a 1956 edition printed in 1972, and it is in excellent condition: never folded, smooth and flat, with a flawless map area and a clean collar showing no markings or wear. The quad sits along the northern boundary of Yosemite National Park in the high Sierra where Mono and Tuolumne counties meet, taking in Tower Peak itself along with portions of Toiyabe and Stanislaus National Forests and the Yosemite and Hoover Wilderness areas. With 80-foot contours mapping rugged backcountry well above treeline, it shows a stretch of the range with no towns, only granite peaks and alpine terrain. It is printed on thick stock, and having never been folded it lies flat.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Tower Peak 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1955 and 1956. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
