This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1962 edition, printed in 1963, and the sheet is in very good condition with a clean map area free of wear or markings. Covering roughly 14 by 17 miles in California’s San Joaquin Valley about 40 miles southeast of Modesto, the quad area takes in the city of Merced and the community of Planada, spanning parts of Merced and Mariposa counties. The 20-foot contour interval traces the gentle valley terrain here, farm country on the western approach to the Sierra foothills, mapped from aerial and field survey work done in 1961 and 1962. A midsheet horizontal foldline and two center line folds are present, with some handling wear along the bottom collar.

A reddish tint may be used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings will be shown. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.
