Kim Arizona USGS 15-Min Topographic Map 1961 Vintage
$44
This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1927 edition, printed in 1961, on thick stock and in excellent condition: lightly handled, never folded, and smooth and flat. Covering roughly 15 by 17 miles of Yuma County about 60 miles east of Yuma, the sheet takes in desert country reaching toward the Mohawk Mountains, with a 25-foot contour interval mapped from a 1927 field survey by geographer Bishop Moorhead. The southwest half of the sheet, including much of the Mohawk Mountains, was left unsurveyed, an unusual detail from a period when parts of this remote Arizona desert had not yet been fully mapped. It comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Kim 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1927. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.
A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
