This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1956 edition printed in 1971, a never-folded sheet in excellent condition with only light handling and a tiny dark blemish in the lower-right quadrant. Straddling the California–Nevada line in the high country west of Hawthorne, the quad takes in Sonora Junction and the Sweetwater Mountains along with portions of Toiyabe National Forest, the Hoover Wilderness, and the Sweetwater Wilderness Study Area. This is rugged Sierra-crest terrain near Sonora Pass, the kind of high, sparsely settled backcountry that draws people who know the eastern slope of the range.
