First published in 1902, this sheet was printed in 1942 and grades good, with a flawless map area and a sheet that was moderately handled but never folded. Printed on thick stock, it takes in a stretch of south-central Nebraska between the Platte valley and the hills to the south, with the quad area including Gothenburg, Cozad, Curtis, and Eustis across Dawson, Frontier, and Lincoln counties. The base reflects field survey work from 1894 and 1899 under geographer Jno. H. Renshawe, showing the towns and farmland of the region as they stood at the turn of the century. A red colored pencil notation sits in the upper right collar corner, with some blemishes and creases in the lower left collar.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the USGS 30-minute series have been out of print for many years. They have never been common and original prints are increasingly difficult to find. For areas where the 30-minute map was produced, it is usually the first large-scale survey done by the USGS for that area. These are a valuable historical record, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent series’ and editions.
