A fascinating historical snapshot of the area between Modesto and Ripon, surveyed when Salida consisted of about a dozen houses, showing rail lines, original lateral and canal alignments, early placenames, and all known structures, schools, and churches. This 7.5-minute USGS topographic sheet is a first-year print, published and printed in 1915 from an R.B. Marshall field survey carried out in 1913. Drawn at a scale of 1:31,680 with five-foot contours, it covers a stretch of the San Joaquin Valley spanning parts of San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties, taking in Salida and reaching toward Modesto and Ripon along the valley floor northeast of San Jose.
