This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1939 edition with 1946 revisions, printed in 1947 on thick stock and kept in very good condition, never folded and only lightly handled. It takes in a stretch of south-central Pennsylvania in the vicinity of McConnellsburg, with the quad area also including the community of Needmore and reaching across Bedford, Franklin, and Fulton counties. Surveyed before the modern interstate and highway system, it records the traditional overland routes and place names of the ridge-and-valley country as they stood in the 1930s and 1940s. The sheet carries a library stamp in the lower right collar, and edge protectors have been applied.

BACKSIDE LEGEND
A map summary is printed on the back side of the Needmore sheet similar to the one shown in the picture. At the bottom of the page is a legend showing all of the symbols used to represent the cultural, relief, and water features found on the map.

This vintage sheet is a 1939 edition of the Needmore Pennsylvania USGS topographic map. It is an original 79-year-old 1947 United States Geological Survey print in very good condition.

All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
