This Army Map Service topographic sheet is a 1947 edition of the Point Sal quad, printed in 1948 on thick stock and in very good condition, lightly handled and never folded with a flawless map area. It covers a stretch of the central California coast about 14 miles west of Santa Maria, taking in Point Sal itself along a section of shoreline that straddles the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara county line and touches part of the California Coastal National Monument. The sheet records ocean depths and bottom descriptions offshore, a detail typical of a wartime-era Army Map Service coastal survey and one that sets it apart from an ordinary land topo. Having never been folded, the sheet would take well to framing.
