Printed in its year of first publication, 1948, this USGS 7.5-minute topographic sheet is in very good condition, never folded, with a flawless map area and only light handling wear in the lower right collar corner. Covering ground on the west side of San Francisco Bay about 22 miles northwest of San Jose, the quad area spans parts of Alameda and San Mateo counties and takes in Redwood City, Foster City, and the tidal flats and sloughs now within the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Drawn from a 1946 aerial and field survey with contours at a close 5-foot interval, it records the low marshes and shoreline of the South Bay as they looked before the postwar growth that filled much of this area. The sheet is printed on thick stock, and the reverse carries printed reference material explaining the mapping program and map symbols.
