This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1932 edition printed in 1959, in very good condition on thick stock, never folded and only very lightly handled. Straddling the Pennsylvania–New York line about 30 miles north of Scranton, the quad takes in the Susquehanna River valley and the towns of Susquehanna Depot, Hallstead, Great Bend, New Milford, and Oakland, with Thompson also within its boundaries in Susquehanna and Broome counties. Drawn from a 1931 and 1932 field survey made before the interstate system, the base edition marks every house known at the time of survey, down to individual structures along the river towns. The map area is flawless, and the sheet carries a library stamp in the center-right collar with edge protectors applied.

The Susquehanna 15-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1931 and 1932. All known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are also shown, with exceptions in some urban areas, where only landmark buildings may be shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
Maps from the 15-minute series for the continental United States are no longer produced or printed by the USGS and original prints are becoming increasingly difficult to find. They are a valuable historical record for an area, as they contain many placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.
