This USGS 15-minute topographic sheet carries an 1889 edition first surveyed that same year, printed in 1956 on thick stock and in very good condition, never folded and only lightly handled. Spanning the point where Carbon, Luzerne, and Schuylkill counties meet about 25 miles northwest of Allentown, the quad takes in the city of Hazleton along with Tamaqua, Jim Thorpe, Lansford, Nesquehoning, and the small communities of Jeddo and Drifton. This is the heart of Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal country, and the mapped landscape here reflects the mining towns and rugged ridges that defined the region. The map area is flawless and the sheet has never been folded, so it will lie flat for framing, though a library stamp sits in the center-right collar.
