First published in 1952 and printed in 1968 with photorevisions through 1967, this 7.5-minute USGS topographic sheet is in good condition, printed on thick stock and never folded. It covers the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, in Maricopa County, mapping the city at 1:24,000 with 10-foot contours. The 1967 revisions layered onto the early-1950s base capture a period when the Phoenix metro was expanding fast, so the street grid and development recorded here reflect that mid-century moment; the map area itself shows no wear or markings, though there is minor age toning and several stabilized small edge tears along the right collar. It comes from the vintage map collection of Art Christiansen of Tempe, Arizona.

This vintage sheet is a 1952 edition of the Phoenix Arizona USGS topographic map revised in 1967 using aerial photography. It is an original 58-year-old 1968 United States Geological Survey print in good condition.

FEATURES SHOWN ON THE MAP
The Phoenix 7.5-minute map shows cities and towns, roads, paths, railroads, utilities and energy infrastructure, rivers, creeks, elevation contour lines, public land survey lines, county, state, and other administrative boundaries as they existed at the time of the survey in 1951 and 1952. A reddish tint is used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings are depicted. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.

A VALUABLE HISTORICAL RECORD
This map is from the 7.5-minute series, the most detailed series that is widely available from the USGS. The 1952 Phoenix map is a valuable historical record for the area. It contains some placenames and features that have been dropped from more recent maps.

The map was photorevised in 1967. Any features that changed or were added between the original edition year of 1952 and the photorevision year of 1967 are overlayed in purple. The purple overlay provides an excellent view of the fast-growing and changing areas within the quad boundary.
