This USGS/Army Corps of Engineers topographic sheet is a 1950 edition, printed in 1954, and it is in excellent condition: lightly handled, never folded, printed on thick stock, with a flawless map area and only a small inventory stamp on the lower collar. Covering a 14-by-17-mile stretch of Lincoln County in south-central New Mexico about 50 miles north of Alamogordo, the quad takes in the town of Carrizozo along with parts of the Lincoln National Forest and the White Mountain Wilderness. The wilderness area and its high country give the sheet its name and its character, with 25-foot contours tracing the rise of terrain that many who know this part of New Mexico would recognize. Having never been folded and kept on heavy stock, it would frame cleanly for anyone with a tie to the area.

A reddish tint is used on this sheet to indicate urban areas where only landmark buildings are depicted. Outside of those areas, all known structures (houses, businesses, churches, schools, barns, cabins, etc) are shown.
