This USGS 15-minute topographic map is a 1902 edition printed in 1968, in excellent condition on thick stock, lightly handled and never folded with a flawless map area. Covering an area about 20 miles southeast of Greenville, the quad takes in the town of Vanceboro along with the community of Ernul, spanning parts of Beaufort, Craven, and Pitt counties in eastern North Carolina. The base was drawn from a 1902 field survey under geographer H.M. Wilson, giving the map a portrait of this low, river-crossed coastal-plain country as it stood at the turn of the century. Because the sheet was never folded and lies flat, it works well for framing; note that the collar carries a black marker notation at the bottom.
